Conditions

Procedure

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] By the website : directly contact the desired supervisors and, after agreement, ask for the validation of the attribution of the internship on the dedicated website.

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] Free, in Montpellier : directly contact the desired supervisors and, after agreement, ask for the inscription on the internship dedicated website (please refer to the website of the Master ‘Biology and Health’) then the validation (using a link sent to the supervisor by mail) of the attribution of the internship on the dedicated website.

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] Free, out of Montpellier (France and worldwide) : inform the pedagogic manager (Agnes Fichard) and the International Relations for the administrative procedures (please check the ‘Administrative Offices’ tab on the page ‘Teaching and Research‘), then follow the same procedure as for free internship research in Montpellier.

To realize the TER, the student writes a research project corresponding to the semester 4 internship.

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] a 20-min oral part (10 min presentation + 10 min questions) in front of a jury of 8 to 10 people, including 1 rapporteur who will have read your written report.

    [icon type= »check »] The scientific quality of your project (originality, relevance for the research topic…)

    [icon type= »check »] The general presentation of your project (redaction of the different parts, evaluation of the pros and cons…)


General Advice about the TER

[icon type= »caret-right »] This UE from Semester 3 counts for ⅓ of your grade (10 ECTS) and constitutes a major preparation step for the good execution of your second semester internship.

[icon type= »caret-right »] It is crucial to make contact as soon as possible with your research group in order to plan as soon as possible the meetings to prepare your internship project.

[icon type= »caret-right »] Keep track of the literature informations which will be useful later (internship report, etc…)

[icon type= »caret-right »] During your everyday life at the lab, the research, questions and initiatives you take should allow you to get a better understanding of the approach of the project, the theoretical aspects of the techniques, to argumentate in favor of the interest of your experiments (please don’t say again « someone told me to do it »), of your controls, and about the weaknesses and eventual alternatives of your project.

The aim of this part is to « sell » your project and unveil all its originality for its research field. You have to use strong key-words to put it forward. You can inspire from funding applications from your team.

This part has to be clearly structured, with titles and subtitles to really differenciate all of your experiments and try to reach your project goals. The role of this part is having you discuss about first obtained results to illustrate your project and demonstrate its feasibility. Do not hesitate to show graphs and illustrations.

The goal of this part is making you realise the cost of your internship. You have to generally evaluate your internship and show that you have access to all the tool required for the good progress of the internship. The best is to make a chart, or split it in several parts (imaging, reagents…). Do not forget to add your salary to the calculation. You can refer to fundind applications of your team. Some tools, as an example: savoir-faire, platforms, reputation of the institute, personnel, advices…

[icon type= »caret-right »] The Methodology UE is mandatory. The grade counts for 15% of the global internship grade.

[icon type= »caret-right »] The duration of the written examination of these UE is 1 hour (anonymous papers, double check)

[icon type= »caret-right »] Students having their internship abroad are compelled to take an equivalent UE, among the UE of the university where they will realize their internship. The internship supervisor has to send a mail indicating the name of this UE, and the grade which was obtained.

[icon type= »caret-right »] Practical information about calendar and content of each UE will be annonced in due time on the Master ‘Biology and Health’ website.


The student has to suggest, under written and oral form, an original and feasible research project, without relation with the content of his/her internship, in front of a jury.

Goals and Evaluation of the Fictive Project

The goal is to highlight your personal research aptitudes through 3 main points that you have to get in mind as soon as possible, to orientate your research procedure.

Please insure during your research that you will keep track of the information which will allow you to master the approaches, know the technical limitations

[icon type= »check »] « Concrete meaning and Feasibility » : Talk to people, submit your ideas (sometimes an idea which look bright on your side may be bad, seen under another angle)

At any moment, think, discuss and think about control experiments, alternatives, perspectives, adequation of the technologies, difficulty of production, availability of the equipment, existence and quality of the reagents, prices, feasibility on 3 years


General Advice on the Fictive Project

[icon type= »caret-right »] This UE from Semester 4 counts for ⅓ of your grade (10ECTS) and constitutes an important evaluation in your file.

[icon type= »caret-right »] The reflexion step is long and hard, so you need to start it as soon as possible to get enough time to choose a topic and get a view as general as possible when you start writing. So, quickly start literature studies and keep track of the infos that you will need later (report, presentation…)

[icon type= »caret-right »] While looking for your topic, you will need to follow 3 main goals which constitute a whole and allow an equilibrium between originality and feasibility :

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] Identify a non-explored topic but avoid the « common originality » (these are « trendy » research topics that are overly explored because of being « new »)

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] Get a relevant biological question : choose the question instead of the method

[icon type= »caret-right »][icon type= »caret-right »] Deepen the topic and look for an interesting addition : choose particular model, approaches or methodologies
